The Wet Spot: An Evening of Burlesque & Cabaret

Here's a flyer I designed for a burlesque and cabaret night in Leeds called The Wet Spot.
As you can see on the flyer I'll also be dusting off my Eddie Cochran, Ike & Tina, Dion, and other favourite records to DJ on the night which I'm really looking forward to.
Tickets are exclusively available to buy now at Rose & Co. For more details visit The Wet Spot's myspace page.
The snake-teasing/burlesque beauty on the front of the flyer is a drawing from my Everlasting Arms exhibition called Nikole Swallows.

Cheers to everyone who came to the opening, those who bought my artwork, and Russ Henry for driving my artwork from Liverpool to Bristol and also sorting out the house party after the show. Nice one, la!

Gifts!

Last week I was lucky enough to be given two ace gifts. The first were these antique 1950's Fred (from Homepride) salt & pepper shakers! I've always loved Fred from homepride so I nearly fell off my seat when I was given these. Thanks Vikki!

The second gift is this classic Mora survival knife given to me by Chris from Ireland as a thank you for designing a tattoo for him. Nice one Chris!

Lost Art

This is the Britannia skateboard I designed for Liverpool's long-standing skateboard shop Lost Art. The boards aren't going to be available for at least a couple more months but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Clark Magazine

The new issue of Clark magazine from Paris has just been released and features a nice little review about my Rockin Bones exhibition.

Clark also published a six page interview and feature on my artwork in issue 18 a couple of years ago. I think back issues are available to buy on their website for anybody who would like a copy.

Cheers, Geraldyne!

Leeds

Last weekend I travelled to Leeds to help my mate Matt the Ham make an appointment for a tattoo I'd designed for him.
As soon as we arrived on Friday I painted a wall with Matt and Big Steve - who kindly baked some tasty muffins for the occasion.

Here's a section of my painting. . .

Bert Grimm

Last week I was surprised to receive an email from Carmen Forquer who's researching the life of her Great Uncle, the American tattooist Bert Grimm. Turns out she had read an interview with me in which I mentioned I was a big fan of his work and she was curious about the influence he'd had on my own artwork.
If you're unfamiliar with Bert's life and long, interesting career in tattooing you should take the time to look him up.

What was strange about receiving the email from Carmen was a few weeks earlier I'd decided to draw my own version of a Bert Grimm flash image.

Here's Bert's original flash that I chose. . .

Here's my drawing. . .

And here's Bert at work!

D.I.Y. OR DIE!

Here are a couple of new zines that I was asked to contribute to.

The first is a collection of artwork of all the artists' who have exhibited at the JaguarShoes venue where I currently have my Rockin Bones exhibition. I think this is available to buy at www.jaguarshoes.com

The second, Taxidermy for the Poor, is a collaboration from Chips for the Poor and Collette with the theme Beauty and the Beast. My favourite feature in this zine is an interview with the creator of girlsandcorpses.com. Weird stuff.

Double-Tops!

I love drawing pin-up's, and I love playing darts. I don't think this drawing needs any more of an explanation than that. . .

Beard-o!

Just before Christmas I was commissioned to make a drawing of some guy called Doog by his friend Sarwah. I'm not always interested in doing this type of work but seeing as Doog had a rad beard I thought it would make a good drawing.

Here's a detail from the finished piece. . .

You can blame/thank Vikki Kink's cheeky comments for inspiring this one. . .

Cheers Vikki!

London

I somehow managed to make it to London on Thursday morning and after spending about four hours drilling holes in the walls of The Old Shoreditch with Vickie we finally got my show hung.

Here's a selection from the eighteen drawings I'm showing. . .

Fun times at the opening.

All work in the exhibition is for sale. Go buy!

Bah, Humbug!

Illustration students at Salford university asked myself and other artists' to design a christmas card for them to sell so they could raise money for their final show.

The cards are available to buy at Urbis, Cornerhouse, and Magma in Manchester, or online at www.cardboardsu.blogspot.com

. . .and here's what I think about Christmas! Only joking, I always have fun over the holiday, but I will end up skint, fat, and sick from all the booze. Can't wait!

Don't forget to come to my show this Thursday in London. See my previous post for all the details. . .

Oh, and if you like the T-shirt I'm wearing in the above picture then you should go to www.myspace.com/sketchstance and buy a copy of Sketch Stance fanzine. It's fucking boss!

Tattoos

I've recently been cleaning out my computer and found a lot of photographs I've either taken myself or have been sent of tattoos based on my artwork.
I know there are a lot of tattoos out there based on my work that I've been told about but never seen, or have seen them but been unable to photograph. I've also been sent tattoos of my work from cities across the U.S. and Europe so there's probably a lot I don't even know about. It's the biggest compliment when I see a drawing I made used for a tattoo and I'd love to see them all. . .
If anyone out there has a tattoo of my artwork please email it to me (hi-res if possible), and if you include your postal address I'll send you some stickers and maybe a zine or poster or whatever else I have lying around to say thanks.

My email: kev@kevgrey.com

Hicksville Horror

My friend Russ Henry who organises the Hot Soup 'art party' in Bristol recently put on the Hicksville Horror party at a squat near the city centre. I went over and painted a few walls inside the venue in preparation for the night.
Here's one of the paintings I made. . .
