Bert Grimm

Last week I was surprised to receive an email from Carmen Forquer who's researching the life of her Great Uncle, the American tattooist Bert Grimm. Turns out she had read an interview with me in which I mentioned I was a big fan of his work and she was curious about the influence he'd had on my own artwork.
If you're unfamiliar with Bert's life and long, interesting career in tattooing you should take the time to look him up.

What was strange about receiving the email from Carmen was a few weeks earlier I'd decided to draw my own version of a Bert Grimm flash image.

Here's Bert's original flash that I chose. . .

Here's my drawing. . .

And here's Bert at work!

D.I.Y. OR DIE!

Here are a couple of new zines that I was asked to contribute to.

The first is a collection of artwork of all the artists' who have exhibited at the JaguarShoes venue where I currently have my Rockin Bones exhibition. I think this is available to buy at www.jaguarshoes.com

The second, Taxidermy for the Poor, is a collaboration from Chips for the Poor and Collette with the theme Beauty and the Beast. My favourite feature in this zine is an interview with the creator of girlsandcorpses.com. Weird stuff.

Double-Tops!

I love drawing pin-up's, and I love playing darts. I don't think this drawing needs any more of an explanation than that. . .

Beard-o!

Just before Christmas I was commissioned to make a drawing of some guy called Doog by his friend Sarwah. I'm not always interested in doing this type of work but seeing as Doog had a rad beard I thought it would make a good drawing.

Here's a detail from the finished piece. . .
